RA, or rheumatoid arthritis, is a chronic and progressive connective tissue disease of unknown etiology. Its initial symptom is considered to be symmetrical involvement of the wrist, proximal interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints. We are then dealing with the so-called. “rheumatoid hand”. Other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include polyarticular contractures, boutonniere fingers, stiffness, “swan neck”, as well as swelling and muscle atrophy. In addition to pharmacological, surgical or rehabilitation treatment, passive correction of diseased joints is very important.
In the situation of the so-called “swan hand” in RA, the orthosis design corrects the position of the fingers from the elbow side, to the neutral position. Maintaining such a hand position affects the inhibition of the process of neurological and degenerative changes in a sick person.
